Sam Head Shot

Hi, I'm Sam Fickel.

I believe in the importance of guiding first-time home buyers through the entire process and keeping them informed of milestones and next steps.
As a veteran, I always enjoy working with those who have served and providing them with one of the biggest benefits the government has allowed them with the VA loan.
As a brokerage, we are able to utilize different lenders to suit different needs, and it can be surprising how possible it is to get a house with less than stellar credit.

Overall, I'm here to help and I look forward to making some magic happen!

Personal Background

I was raised in Hermiston, and headed to Army Basic Training right after graduation. After Basic, I enrolled at Eastern Oregon University where I eventually got my Bachelor's degree in Business with a focus in Leadership, Organization, and Management with a minor in Communications.

I moved to Tri Cities after college in 2015. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew I wanted something in the field of business where I can use my love for numbers, problem solving, finance, and networking. Opportunistic ideas are always flowing through my mind. These ideas finally came to fruition when my home loan closed with Lisa Pogue at Desert Canyon Mortgage, and I realized that I wanted to do what she did for me.

So here we are!

What's the best thing about your job?

Honestly, after being a micro-managed employee up until this point, I love being self-employed and being able to set my own schedule. In this job, I get to build relationships as a critical job function, and I get to work with numbers every day.

Unique Skills

I've played piano since the age of 8 and taught myself improvisation. I now perform for wineries and high-end restaurants around town in my free time. I'm also looking forward to playing for an open house sometime.

I also know how to operate Abrams battle tanks, which is kind of cool.

What piece are you when you play Monopoly?

I play Monopoly with my in-laws all the time, and my piece of choice is the car. However, everyone else in the office has their eyes on the car as well. So I guess I'll have to paint my own car piece a different color if I play against them!

A Word From My Clients

"Desert Canyon Mortgage was very professional to work with. They answered all our questions, and made our loan process very easy."

ROBBY BURCH

I have worked with Desert Canyon Mortgage on several transactions for several different clients. They are wonderful to work with. I love supporting small, local business and they are just that. They are able to step outside of the "banking" box and provide exceptional customer service in cases where other lenders would have their hands tied. They are wonderful people and stand behind their word. They have helped many people achieve the "American Dream" and I am proud to stand with them as a business owner and professional.
