Personal Background

I was born in Richland, Washington and grew up in Benton City. After my service in the Army I worked in the family business based in the Tri-Cities for 15 years. I was a realtor for 5 years and then opened Desert Canyon Mortgage Company in 1998 with the intent of simplifying the mortgage pricing process for home buyers. We've been helping home buyers understand their options and save money on closing costs ever since.

How long have you been in the mortgage business?

While operating as a Realtor, selling LaPierre Homes I decided to open a mortgage company to help handle new construction loans. Being new to the mortgage industry and not realizing that most mortgage companies keep the "Lender Credits" I began my career by giving them back to the borrower. And that's been good for our clients which has been good for us. It wasn't long before I had a line of prospects interested in knowing how they could have their closing costs paid for and I soon let the Realtor end of things go to focus full time on how to make mortgages make more sense to everyday people.

What's the best thing about your job?

The look on the borrower's faces when they realize how much money they have saved by teaming up with Desert Canyon. We peel back the curtain on mortgage pricing so that the buyer can see all their options in one place and make an informed decision and that gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Who is one of your heroes and why?

My brother Russ. He has influenced almost every part of my life. Russ was his own man. He looked after me not only like a brother, but in his way as a father. Here are just a few of the maxims that he has imparted to me and that I try to live by.
